History
The Campo family founded AVA in 1954. Their first product was bentonite (Avagel) from their mine found in Pizzo Corvo (Raven Peak) in Sicily, which is still used today. They provided bentonite to one of the first wells drilled in Sicily, and over time added additional products. AVA remained a product supplier until 1968 when they became a full service drilling fluids company. Their first customer as a full service company was ELF Italiana, later working with several other oil companies before getting their first well with AGIP (ENI). Today AVA is the primary mud supplier to AGIP Italia (ENI) and maintains a 40-45% market share within the country. By 1990 AVA, knowing there was limited growth in Italy, began laying the groundwork for their international operations. In 1993 offices and warehouses were set up in Tunisia and Algeria and work began in North Africa. AVA joined with Newpark Drilling Fluids, LLC in 2002 forming a synergy that has resulted in a strong, result driven, winning combination. Gaining the strength of Newpark’s R&D, and providing a long history of exceptional service throughout the Mediterranean and North Africa. Today the services of AVA have expanded to include waste recovery, water recycling and drilling fluids disposal. Operations have expanded to include Libya, Germany, Romania and Egypt along with offices in Spain and Austria. |
