NEW AVAPOLYOIL SYSTEM Ava recently completed the first well in Italy using the Avapolyoil / DeepDrill system. This system has been used successfully throughout North America, including deep water Gulf of Mexico, but it wasn’t until recently that this system was made available for use in the Mediterranean area. The first test of it’s ability to inhibit reactive shale and maintain a stable, gauge wellbore have proven successful, offering a viable alternative to invert emulsion systems. The well was drilled in Northern Italy where an environmentally safe drilling fluid was needed. The formation to be drilled was reactive, and required a system that would inhibit the shale and minimize dilution rates at elevated mud weights. Ava proposed the Avapolyoil system and after drilling the surface hole, displaced to new drilling fluid for the final two intervals of the well. 
Cuttings recovered from shaker at 1600m using PDC bit.
Shale cuttings were firm and well inhibited with no signs of sticking or balling. After reaching casing point, the caliper log confirmed what cuttings at the shale shakers had indicated. As gauge, well inhibited well bore. Casing was then run to bottom with no problems and drilling continued to TD. Call your AVA representative to learn about more solutions that work.  |
