CONTINUED SUCCESS WITH AVAPOLYOIL OFFSHORE LIBYA Ava has been working with a major European operator on a series of wells in a field offshore Libya. While drilling the 12 ¼” section on the initial wells, swelling shale, high torque and drag, and several incidents of stuck pipe had been encountered. It was clear that a more inhibitive system would be needed on the remaining wells. Ava proposed the high performance Avapolyoil / DeepDrill system. This system would provide the superior shale inhibition and lubricity required for drilling through the challenging, deviated 9 5/8” section. In addition, it would allow the operator to continue using an environmentally safe drilling fluid, eliminating the risks and costs associated with switching to an oil-base mud system. Since making the decisions to switch over to the Avapolyoil / DeepDrill system, two wells have been successfully drilled to casing point with no incidents of swelling shales or hole problems. The operator is pleased with the performance of the system and plans to continue using the Avapolyoil / DeepDrill system on the remaining wells on this project. |
