Completion Fluids

AVA provides a full range of completion fluids, ranging from 1.05 sg to near 2.30 sg.

Fluid selection depends on several factors, such as required density, crystallization temperature and environmental impact.

All completion fluids provided by AVA are clear brines; their formulation can be customized according customer’s needs (i.e. viscosity, corrosion inhibition, etc).

Commonly used brines are:
  • Single salts (i.e. Sodium Chloride, NaCl);
  • Binary brines (i.e. Calcium Chloride / Calcium Bromide, CaCl2/CaBr2);
  • Ternary brines (i.e. Zinc Bromide / Calcium Chloride / Calcium Bromide, ZnBr2/CaCl2/CaBr2)
As in certain cases brines can be expensive, after use they can be recovered and treated for re-use (using a buy-back formula).

Typical density range of use for each brine

Besides the commonly used brines (NaCL, KCl, CaCl2, CaBr2, ZnBr2 ...), AVA can provide special kind of brines with a low environmental impact, such as:
  • AVA K142: Potassium acetate brine
  • AVA K157: Potassium formate brine
  • Cesium formate brine
These types of brines are also compatible with common water-based mud additives.
