Newpark Drilling Fluids Laboratory (Houston) supports AVA and provide a full range of laboratory and analytical services to its customers that round out and complete the full line of AVA's laboratory capabilities.

AVA Laboratories are equipped with all the standard equipment commonly used for both drilling fluids and quality control analysis. Tests on drilling fluids are performed according API and OCMA specifications, where applicable.

The AVA Laboratory in Rome also provides:
  • Quality assurance controls
  • Research & Development
  • Product development
  • System development
  • Real time rig support
The primary equipment used to simulate bottom hole conditions as well as quality control testing are the:

  • Fann 70: HP/HT Viscometer (500°F - 20000 psi) to evaluate mud rheology, simulating bottom hole conditions.

  • Fann 90: Dynamic filtration system that permits the evaluation of HP/HT filtrate under dynamic conditions (500°F - 2500 psi). A rotating shaft simulates the drilling conditions; different ceramic filter cores (ranging from 5 mm - 750 mD to 190 mm - 75 D) can be selected in order to simulate formation permeability.

  • Linear Swell Meter 2000: evaluation of inhibition properties of different mud formulations based on the vertical swelling of shale platelets previously prepared.

  •
